Engineering assumptions and selection checks

Thin-lens planning model: f = u × sensor width / (horizontal FOV + sensor width). Here u is measured from the lens principal plane, not the front of its housing. Actual specified working distance and field of view must be checked with the chosen lens. This estimates geometry, not distortion, depth of field or optical resolving power.

C-mount specifies the mount, not sensor coverage. Check image circle against sensor diagonal, camera mount compatibility, minimum focusing distance, aperture, distortion, optical resolution and application margins. Object sampling is µm per pixel, not guaranteed defect resolution. Pixels across a defect are a geometric sampling estimate; the required count is your design criterion, not a guarantee. Validate contrast, lighting, motion blur, lens MTF, noise and the inspection algorithm. Preset dimensions are active pixel count × pitch; actual camera ROI, binning and readout may differ. Sensor presets were checked against published camera specifications on October 5, 2026, not live inventory. Numeric inputs are illustrative and do not identify a particular camera.

Vision platforms, engineering software and original tools.

My CV lists experience with Matrox Design Assistant, Cognex, Keyence VS, LMI 3D and OpenCV; engineering tools include LabVIEW, MATLAB, TIA Portal and Logix 5000. Dedicated entries will explain how I use selected tools in practice.

This optics planning tool illustrates my approach to application feasibility. Additional original software and demonstrations will be developed here. Platform names describe experience, not affiliation or endorsement.
